Setting Intentions for the New Year

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and the first chapter is New Year's Day. -Edith Lovejoy Pierce.png

January is a wonderful time to set out intentions to live more balanced lives. What is it that makes the difference between a wish and an intention? A wish is a hope. It is something you are waiting for. An intention, on the other hand, is a belief. It is when you combine attraction with action that your intentions become reality.

It is this balance between belief and action that usually gets me stuck. How much action is necessary and when do I need to let go my attempt at control? If you are action orientated like me you must know what I mean. There are goals and intentions in our life that will need our action and dedication to help them come to fruition, but sometimes we reach a point when we have to detach from our expectations and let the universe deliver. There is a great deal in this world we will never control.

This week I have been reading Outrageous Openness: Letting the Divine Take the Lead by Tosha Silva and I am beginning to implement some of her suggestions for letting go of “fear and scarcity” while keeping our energy “anchored in the Divine” as our source. Below I share the four steps she teaches in her book that will help you truly allow your dreams and goals to manifest.

  1. Release a personal focus.

Here she encourages you not think about win or lose but rather an outcome where both sides benefit. See your situation as good for all.

  2. Call in Divine Order.

The solution is already selected and will arrive easily, at the right time, for the right price, etc.

  3. Install the Divine as the true owner.

Release your ownership and realize this object, job, or situation was not really yours. It never truly belonged to you. Return it to the Divine for the perfect resolution.

  4. Become detached.

This one is a challenge, but it is important to let go of your attachment to any outcome. The more you hold on to your vision, the more of a chance you may be blocking an even better resolution. Let it go and trust! Not easy.

So as you begin creating your goals, intentions, or resolutions for the New Year, I ask that you take yourself through these four steps. Keep them typed out to remind yourself to detach when you start to try to control the outcome, or look at the situation from a win and lose viewpoint. At the very least, you will find yourself less fearful and anxious about the outcome and more filled with wonder at the generosity of the Divine. Best wishes through this experience and please feel free to share your questions or comments below or on my Melissa Loves History Facebook Page.
